New Uncharted Movie Images Surface On Twitter

We’ve been hearing rumours of an Uncharted movie since 2009. With various A-list celebrities tied to the franchise over more recent years – most of which were quickly quashed, it was starting to feel like the movie was never going to happen.

In October 2020, images of Tom Holland of Spider Man fame emerged with him sporting Nathan Drake’s trademark combat trousers, long sleeved top, gun holsters and the now famous ring around his neck. Tom Holland had been linked to the movie since early 2020. He even said in February of that year that the script was “one of the best he’d ever read”.

This week, the following post was shared on Twitter on the official Uncharted Movie account.

When Is The Uncharted Movie Set?

The Uncharted movie is an origin story, set before the events of even the first game. This makes sense given that the most recent offering in the gaming franchise, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End told the story of an ageing adventurer whose life had slowed down. The game even ends with a short epilogue showing Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher’s daughter discovering their history of treasure hunting.

I have to admit, when it was first announced that the baby-faced Marvel star had been cast as the rugged Nathan Drake I was unsure what to expect. We know Drake as a brawling tough guy and Holland seemed like a strange choice but after seeing him in costume and learning that the Uncharted movie is set before the events of the games, things started to make sense.

The movie is currently due for release in July 2021 but we’re taking that with a pinch of salt given the state of the world right now.
