Best Games Based On Movies

With the recent announcement of a new Indiana Jones game being developed by Bethesda, we’ve been thinking back about the best games based on movie franchises.

Movies and video games have had an unusual relationship over the years. At one end of the scale, we have the Atari E.T. game. Although this seems like more of an urban legend now, the game was developed in just 5 weeks. Apparently, 728,000 copies were eventually buried in the deserts of New Mexico. This number varies wildly depending on who you speak to.

Best Games Based On Movies

On the other hand, some huge franchises have had some amazing video game adaptations. Even though the last few years has been rocky under EAs rule, Star Wars, for example, has had some amazing games.

Our Favourite Video Games Based On Movies

Mad Max – This somewhat ill-fated game should have so much more praise than it gets. Release on the same day as MGS5, it simply never got the attention it deserved. A genuinely enjoyable action game with some interesting mechanics. Upgrading the Magnum Opus feels satisfying and the game play is great. A hidden gem that really needs to be played.

Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor – I suppose this is arguably a video game based on a series of books, rather than a movie… With a fun combat system and the nemesis system, you really feel immersed in the world. You play as Talion, a ranger whose spirit is infused with an elf lord meaning you can jump off cliffs and do other crazy things without dying.

Alien: Isolation – A fantastic survival horror experience that sets itself apart from its competitors. You really do get the feeling of isolation and dread. Well worth a play for fans of the genre.

Goldeneye 007 – Of course this was going to top the list, wasn’t it? We’ve all spent countless evenings and sleepovers playing this game with friends, eating junk food and getting mad at your mate for always playing as Oddjob.
