Is A Ring Video Doorbell Worth It?

With the ever-increasing need for home security, video doorbells become more and more popular. We’ve tried one and now we’re answering the question, “Is A Ring Video Doorbell Worth It?”

Earlier this week we spoke about home security systems. A key take away from that article was the importance of ensuring your smart home devices work well together. A video doorbell needs to link to your Amazon Echo or Google Home to really get the most out of it. We’ve been using a Ring Video Doorbell 3 with an Amazon Echo show 8 and, for the most part, we’ve loved it.

Installation is quick and easy – as long as you have a basic understanding of setting up smart home devices. There’s no longer the need to have professionals come into your home to install security equipment which is a huge reason for their increase in popularity.

Is A Ring Video Doorbell Worth It?

With an impressive range of integrations, this fits into our smart home setup easily. The motion sensor feature works brilliantly and you can even adjust the distance you want to monitor. This took some playing around but we got there eventually.

I’ve been interested in Ring since I first heard about them but the fairly large range they offer, alongside their confusing naming convention always meant I got fed-up of researching them. We bit the bullet recently, however, and I’m glad we did.

What Are The Downsides Of A Ring Video Doorbell?

Removing the battery to charge the doorbell is fairly inconvenient. Although a hard-wired option is available, the installation process is going to be considerably harder.

Another issue we found is that the base models don’t really provide the features we needed. For example, if you want a traditional chime in your home – not just one on your smartphone – you’ll need to either look at a more expensive model or buy a chime separately.

Depending on the size of your front garden, you may also want to consider a secondary camera which will bump up the cost but ensures you have a full view of the front of your property.

So, should you buy a Ring video doorbell?

In conclusion, the Ring video doorbell has been fantastic but be aware that you’ll almost definitely end up spending more money than you expected.

Until next time,
